South Lewis Central School District was honored to welcome New York State Education Commissioner Dr. Betty A. Rosa, along with senior officials from the New York State Education Department, Jefferson-Lewis BOCES leadership, Senator Mark Walczyk, Assemblyman Scott Gray, and other distinguished guests for a special visit to the district.
South Lewis was selected as a strong rural example of the innovative educational opportunities and community partnerships envisioned through NY Inspires, an initiative focused on transforming education to better prepare students for their futures.
During the visit, the district had the opportunity to showcase several programs that bring learning beyond the traditional classroom. The district's STEAM Lab provides students with hands-on experiences in robotics, drones, computer science, engineering, and design, while its agriculture and FFA programs connect academic learning with leadership, problem-solving, and real-world applications.
The visit also highlighted South Lewis's full-service community school model, demonstrating the important role rural schools play not only in educating students but also in connecting families with essential services and community resources.
South Lewis is incredibly proud to have been selected for this visit and grateful for the opportunity to share the innovative programs, meaningful partnerships, and strong sense of community that make our district special.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Commissioner Rosa and all of our distinguished guests for taking the time to experience what South Lewis has to offer.
