Summer enrichment students created artwork that integrated lessons from the three weeks of summer school. With a variety of artwork lining the halls, students finished the week with a gallery crawl and adorned the creations with artful accolades and positive comments. Masterful!

Just six days of rehearsal until the premier of "The Rainbow Fish Musical." Looks like production is going swimmingly as Directors Bradway and Fitzgerald lead the aqua-actors through uncharted waters. There may be plenty of fish in the sea, but these Super Stagers are the best!

Week 3 of the summer enrichment program becomes fair game for fair games. Students step right up for some challenging Can-Jam and Bottle Bowling! We've got ourselves some winners!

Nothing says "fair food" like candy apples. Thanks to Mr. Oakes who prepared these special treats for EVERYONE!. That really is SWEET!

More maraca making moments! These kids are having so much fun; it's music to their instructors' ears.

Summer Enrichment Program Week 3: Local art, music, and the Lewis County Fair
Students made musical instruments from water bottles, dried beans & kernels, and masking tape. These maracas were inspired by the Iroquois turtle shell rattles and blue grass music that were discussed.

Also from the courts of South Lewis: Coach Gino works with volleyball players to keep fingers nimble and bodies flexible in the off-season. Way to pass, jump, and ... clean up, ladies!

Just a reminder: There is still time to collect and deliver your cans and bottles to help out our Falcon basketball teams. See attached for information. Also see attached for pictures of Coach Martin and the Lady Falcons working on game strategies.

Fish, bugs, birds, and plants: South Lewis has it all! Last week the summer school enrichment program learned about ecosystems.During a nature walk, students took pictures and used apps to make identifications: Merlin (bird identification) and Seek by iNaturalist (plant and wildlife identification).

This just in: The South Lewis Weight Room will be open to the public Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6 - 8 p.m. Come on in and get your workout on! Be like these Falcon wrestlers--Mason, Brady, and Colin--who never miss an opportunity to train for next season.

These South Lewis peeps were a part of the audience at "Shrek The Musical" in Rome last night. From the elementary schools: Mrs. Carvel & Mrs. Paulsen with their little ones; super fans from the high school with their chaperone, Mrs. Griffith; and South Lewis directors, Miss Fitzgerald & Mrs. Schneider, with a group of theater buffs. What a great showing of our support for the arts and for our own Katie Vito.

Last night, Katie Vito made a move from the South Lewis stage to the Rome Capitol Theatre Summerstage. Our lovely starlet saw her way clear to the cast of "Shrek The Musical" as one of the 3 Blind Mice. Katie sparkled as she tap, tap, tapped her way from Shrek's Swamp to Farquaad's Castle. The show was mythical, magical, and musical! Check it out!

...more pics of middle school summer enrichment program.

Can you say "entomology"? That's the buzz in the middle school. As part of the ecosystem unit, the middle schoolers caught insects and then wrote stories from the point of view of the captured bugs. Students also discovered a very cool cicada that had just shed its exoskeleton on a tree! Not THAT is a bug's life!

It's for the birds! No, really, it is! These middle school students have feathered their nests and proudly display their beautiful work during the summer enrichment program. Any bird would be happy as a lark to call one home. Chirp.

What's all the tweeting about? Well, it's all about the middle school summer enrichment program and the interactive lessons about birds. These students are gathering goodies from nature to line their nests. Looks like they've put together a lot of happy homes. Look at those smiles. Tweet! Tweet!

And in middle school news.... It's Week 2 of summer school. These lucky ducks get to focus on Local Ecosystems with Lydia Huntress from Beaver Camp. What a great way to start a lesson on birds: a friendly game of Duck Duck Goose! Quack!. Honk!

These Falcons basketball players (yes, that IS Dawson -- a 2018 grad -- with Ian Anderson) encourage the South Lewis community to ASSIST the teams in SCORING 50,000 cans during the months of July & August. Also pictured here are members of the Girls' basketball team with Coach Martin. See attached information for collection details.

Also at South Lewis this summer: Driver Education classes. Mr. Marcus Bush and Mr. Wayne Lyndaker have nerves of steel as they instruct these novice drivers. These gentlemen are pros and must truly enjoy the challenge: they return summer after summer to keep the kids on the road!

Now back to work.... pictures from the middle school summer enrichment program on Wednesday. With a focus on the history of Lewis County, the day's lessons were about the canal system. The students (in their pjs) performed an experiment with 2-liter bottles to represent the lock system, and then listened to historical ghost stories as told by Tanya Roy in the library. Science-y and spooky!
